Summary edit
DescriptionClockwise from top left Elizabeth Levy, Benjamin Levy, Esther Solomon Levy.jpg |
English: In 1841, Esther Solomon and Betsy Levy left London for New Zealand via the ship "Birman." Esther was betrothed to Betsy's brother, Benjamin Levy, who had come to Wellington in 1839 with their brother Solomon Levy via the ship "Oriental." The marriage of Esther Solomon and Benjamin Levy in Wellington, New Zealand, was the first Jewish wedding in Wellington and the second known Jewish wedding in the country. Benjamin Levy was born circa 1818, and his "frock coat" dates this photo to the mid-late 1840's. He died in 1853 (so the dates of "1828" as a possible date for when the photo was taken, and "1880" for his date of death are errors). |
