040612-N-1512S-021 Atlantic Ocean (Jun. 12, 2004) - A Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) fires during a systems test aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Kearsarge is surge deployed to transport elements of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to the Central Command Area of Responsibility (AOR) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and the Global War on Terrorism.
