Object history
English: Coat of arms of the Danish town Nakskov. Based on town seal known since 1351. The style indicates an origin around 1300. The tree is canting ("skov" meaning forest in Danish). The meaning of the claw is unclear. It has been suggested that it was originally a second tree that became distorted into a claw during the centuries.
Dansk: Nakskovs byvåben. Baseret på bysegl kendt siden 1351. Stilen tyder dog på en oprindelse omkring år 1300. Træet er et talende element. Kloens betydning er uklar, det er blevet foreslået der er tale om et andet træ, der gennem tiden er blevet forvansket til en klo.
