Español: Coca Mariani. Fotograbado sobre papel. 18,8 x 26 cm. Ulpiano Checa. 1903. Lámina incluida en el octavo tomo del famoso "Álbum Mariani" de Angelo Mariani, (Córcega 1838. Parls 1914). Angelo Mariani se hizo inmensamente rico con sus "vinos medicinales•, en especial con el vino de coca, al que se atribuían cualidades para las enfermedades del estómago, del aparato respiratorio, el insomnio y la melancolia. Angelo Mariani era, adenás, un amante del arte y tenía un gran sentido publicitario. Se le ocurrió que podía promocionar sus productos enviando un suntuoso obsequio de botellas a personas de gran renombre para obtener como respuesta una nota de agradecimiento autógrafa. Asi se formarón, poco a poco, los "Álbumes Mariani". En ellos figuran reyes, papas, príncipes, presidentes, escritores... Se alternan nombres como Thomas A. Edison, Pétain, Emilie Zola o el mismo Ulpiano Checa. En cada caso hay en estos álbumes un esbozo biográfico del personaje y un grabado con su retrato, además de su firma y unas líneas en prosa o poemas breves, partituras musicales, dibujos, anaramas, todos en loor del vino maravilloso, que obtuvo una bendición especial del Papa León XIII. Los álbumes fueron editados en París por la libraire Henn Fleuri, entre 1894 y 1906, en ediciones exquisitas, codiciadas por los bibliófilos de todo el mundo
