| Description |
English: Cock Pheasant Phasianus colchicus.
The easiest gamebird to see, since it is large and conspicuous. The pheasant was introduced by the Normans in the late 11th century (or possibly earlier by the Romans). Although usually seen in fields, it needs woodland with good ground cover in which to breed. They feed on many types of food, both animal and vegetable. Many individuals take to the trees at night, to escape predation by foxes. |
