| Description |
Français : Typhaeus typhoeus mâle (ou espèce très proche, car sur ce secteur la pointe centrale est inhabituellement arrondie). C'est une des nombreuses espèces de coléoptères qu'on trouvait autrefois communément sur le Plateau d'Helfaut. C'est un bousier qui enterrait les crottes de mouton en y pondant ses œufs. Après la disparition des moutons, ils ont survécu en nourrissant leurs larves de crottes de lapin, mais ils ont presque disparu dans les années 1990. Ils sont plus abondant dans les zones sableuses, mais on en trouve parfois creusant leurs galeries sur des sols argileux, y compris relativement secs et durs, voire caillouteux (silex en l'occurrence).
