Summary edit
DescriptionCold emission (field off).png |
English: The demonstration of the potential barrier at the surface of metal. In the metal electrons fill the energy levels up to the Fermi energy, and there is a potential barrier stretching from the surface of the metal to infinity. As the height of the barrier (U_0) is greater than the Fermi energy (which is the max energy of electrons), electrons cannot tunnel through the barrier and escape the metal. |
