English: Coliseum and Chandos Bar. Two adjacent rooftops on St Martin's :Lane. The Colisseum is also shown in https://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=10675395 . This is how https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1236022 describes the upper part of its main tower: "rises first to elaborate cornice enriched with cartouches, then as Ionic peristyle with figure sculpture at corners supporting advanced coupled columns, entablature and balustrade surmounted by pedestalled ball finials to corners, drum with oculi and stepped dome surmounted by (formerly revolving) large metal and glass globe".
Nearer at hand is the figure also shown in 1276800, on the corner of William IV Street. |
