DescriptionColombian submarine ARC Pijao (SO-28) at Naval Station Mayport on 1 February 2017.JPG |
English: Sailors from the U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) observe the Colombian Navy Type 209 coastal submarine ARC Pijao (SO-28) prior to mooring on a pier at Naval Station Mayport, Florida (USA). The Pijao was visiting Mayport in support of the U.S. Navy's Diesel-Electric Submarine Initiative (DESI) which serves as a training conduit to enhance the U.S. Navy's ability to conduct anti submarine warfare (ASW). The participation of South American submarines in fleet training added an additional degree of difficulty and realism to fleet ASW training exercises. |
