Summary edit

Description Constructed circa 1849, the Colonel Lawrence M. Allen House is the oldest building on Main Street in Marshall, North Carolina. The house is a Greek Revival-style variant of the common I-house, which was popular in the region at the time. The house was the site of a ransacking by Union-sympathetic civilians and soldiers from the Shelton Laurel portion of Laurel Township in 1863, leading to the Shelton Laurel Massacre.
