I 1858) Chicago Speech 19 Speech at Chicago, Illinois, July 10, 1858 MY FELLOW-CITIZENS: On yester-day evening, upon the occasion of thereception given to Senator Douglas,I v^as furnished with a seat very convenient forhearing him, and v^as otherwise very courteous-ly treated by him and his friends, and for whichI thank him and them. During the course ofhis remarks my name was mentioned in such away as, I suppose, renders it at least not im-proper that I should make some sort of reply tohim. I shall not attempt to follow him in theprecise order in which he addressed the assem-bled multitude upon that occasion, though Ishall perhaps do so in the main.
