Die parkbankie langsaan bied 'n idee van sy grootte. Die groter bome van die intertropiese sone het groot steunpunte aan hul stambasisse om hul groot massa op vlak grond regop te hou. Dit is daaraan toe te skryf dat die gronde in die intertropiese sone baie vlak is, nie weens hul gebrek aan voedingstowwe nie, maar weens intense reën wat die ontbindende plantmateriaal geleidelik oplos en "was". Dit gee aanleiding tot hierdie sywaartse aanpassing van die wortels om daardie voedingstowwe beter te benut.
