DescriptionCoppiced area, Freeholders Wood - geograph.org.uk - 1723632.jpg |
English: Coppiced area, Freeholders Wood. This area to the south of the old railway line was coppiced in the winter of 2009-10 by National Park staff and volunteers. Regular coppicing helps to maintain the diversity of the wood, which has a number of rare plants, such as herb paris, as well as providing a range of habitats for wildlife. The mesh guards protect the new hazel shoots from 'tree enemy number one', which is the rabbit. |
