Summary edit

Description
English: Cottages and barracks Rhiwbach was the last slate quarry in Wales to have workmen living weekdays in barracks. When it closed in 1954, there were still two barrackmen at the quarry. Other quarries had done away with the barracks in the 1920s and 1930s as bus services made it easier to commute daily from villages at some distance away. Of course, there were no buses to Rhiwbach, and most of the workforce in later years walked in from Blaena or Cwm Penmachno.
