Les roues indépendantes
Jusqu’au milieu des années 1920, la quasi-totalité des automobiles est montée sur des essieux rigides maintenant les roues avant ou arrière solidaires l’une de l’autre.
Cette rigidité, et le poids de ces essieux sont néfastes pour uns bonne tenue de route et au confort. Le châssis des lyonnais Cottin et Desgouttes, pionniers en la matière, marquaient un tel progrès qu’il fut appelé « Sans secousses »
