Summary edit

Description
English: Coxbury and Wyegate Lane The Domesday Book records an Anglo-Saxon settlement at Wyegate, situated beside an ancient trackway following the east (English) bank of the River Wye. This trackway, now mostly a 'green lane' known as Coxbury and Wyegate Lane, runs between St Briavels and Redbrook along the edge of the valley, roughly parallel to Offa's Dyke. The track follows the high ground, overlooking the River Wye about 200m below. Today the settlement consists of two modernised and extended cottages and a converted barn in a linear pattern alongside the lane. The photo shows the surface of the lane, which at this point is formed of the bedrock, Carboniferous Limestone, in situ. The limestone is quarried nearby at Stowe.
