Description Haji Mohammed Khan, district administrator of Nawa, applauds as Nafus Khan, Nawa's police commander, shakes hands with Lt. Col. Matt Baker, commanding officer of 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment after Baker places a ceremonial headdress on the police commander's head. Baker and other Marines of 1/3 were guests of honor at Nawa's first Islamic New Year celebration in years, which was held at the district's open-air bazaar and attended by nearly 1,000 citizens. It was the first time in years such a large celebration has been held publicly since Marines and Afghan forces flushed the Taliban from the district last July.
