DescriptionCregneash Village - St. Peter's Church west exterior - geograph.org.uk - 1691890.jpg |
English: Cregneash Village - St. Peter's Church west exterior This church is still functional today, as it was in the 18th & 19th centuries. It is not a part of the Cregneash Museum. A local man provided the land for the church and the villagers provided free labour to build their church using local stone. The villagers had to cope with the harsh environment this hill is subject to and with the physical demands of their crofting lifestyle; but they had a strength of religious feeling. I've visited the Isle of Man two times, and the church door was unlocked both times, permitting me to see the interior and spend a few moments inside. This church was prominent in the movie "Waking Ned Devine", so I enjoyed being here. View is to the southwest. |
