Description
English: Cross Gates railway station, Yorkshire
Thought to have opened in 1834 as "Crossgates" by the Leeds & Selby Railway, later part of the North Eastern Railway, the name changed to Cross Gates in 1877, but both versions appeared for many years.

View east towards Garforth, Selby and York. The station was rebuilt in 1902 with four tracks, only the two outer ones being next to platforms. The two inner tracks were removed c.1970, as were the extensive platform canopies. The booking office is at street level, out of view to the right of this image. In the foreground, a lattice footbridge existed until 2007 and the abutments can still clearly be seen.

The junction for the line to Wetherby (1876-1964) could also once be clearly seen in the distance from this point, but is now overgrown. The fencing between the tracks was installed in the last few years. See SE3634 : Cross Gates railway station, Yorkshire, 2008 for an earlier image from a similar camera position.
