Summary
editDescriptionCrossgates Gasholder Number 1 - geograph.org.uk - 372098.jpg |
English: Crossgates Gasholder Number 1 The Crossgates gasholder (gasometer) is a prominent local landmark, visible for miles around. The contributor has been unable to establish the date of the structure. However, two circular structures are shown on 1894 and 1921 maps, which describe the site as The Crossgates, Halton & Seacroft Gas Company.
The crash barrier in the foreground is in a car park situated on the site of former railway marshalling yard, which among other functions acted as a coal depot for local area and was attached to a nearby coal mine.
