Description

Family: Euphorbiaceae Distribution: Common and gregarious weed in waste places anf fields. Native of S.America and naturalised in India. Description: 40-60cm tall annual herbs. Leaves 2.5-6x1-2.5cm, ovate lanceolate, serrulate, acute biglandular, stellate hairy beneath. Flowers 2-3mm across, creamy yellow in 4-8cm long androgynous spikes. The whole plant is a mosquito repellent. The ash of the plant is used as a detergent to wash clothes. But it is a phytotoxic weed. It hinders the growth of natural grasses, polygonum, calotropis etc. Photographed at Nellore of India.
