| Description |
English: Croydon: Central post office In the 1970s a large new post office was opened as an adjunct to the sorting office next to East Croydon station. A state-of-the-art overhead 'bagway' was installed to deliver and collect bags to and from the station platforms. Now. of course, all this investment lies abandoned and the Royal Mail goes by road. The public post office closed and all business was transferred back to the old Central Croydon office in High Street, shown here. Needless to say, this office struggles to meet demand and long queues are the rule rather than the exceotion. But at least they have given it a much-needed facelift. |
