au Triomphe de là Mort. La déesse, reine souveraine des humains,
parcourt l'espace dans un char traîné par des chimères apocalyp-
tiques, des furies lui servent de postillons, le char est construit
avec des ossements. Sur terre, le cortège des femmes éplorées suit
la procession funèbre, rythmée par l'olifant lugubre des sonneurs.
Et autour de cette vision désolante la nature immortelle déploie ses
splendeurs, ses richesses innombrables...
Ces deux dessins tiennent une place importante dans le recueil
iconographique de la mort. Mais ce sujet a tellement hanté les
artistes que les œuvres sont innombrables où la Camarde est glo-
rifiée, implorée, humiliée, bravée... tant il est vrai que la peur de
lau-delà est un des plus puissants mobiles de nos actes.

Voici deux documents, datant du treizième siècle tirés l'un de
l'Hortus deliciarum, l'autre du Pseautier de saint Louis.
Il s'agit d'abord de la Mort du Pécheur. Le moribond est étendu
