Introduction: The Camdon And Amboy Railroad “Monster” is an experimental steam locomotive built during the early days of steam for heavy freight trains.

Appearance: The Monster is a lever driven steam locomotive with very complicated running gear. The reason it is called a lever driven locomotive is because of the piston driving a lever back and forth that pulls the wheels along. There is some extra valve gear that is used for reversing the engine.

Trivia: Despite many calling the monster an 0-8-0, it is actually an 0-4-4-0 because of the separate valve gear on the front 4 wheels, which are driven by gears.
