Summary edit

Description When the 1990 Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (NLEA) was enacted, FDA enlisted Curious George and some of his friends to help promote the new label in various targeted groups and populations. The messages were warmly received by parents, children, and the press. And the Nutrition Facts Label soon became the most recognized graphic in the world. As intended, the label’s contents continue to evolve as FDA’s increased scientific knowledge about nutrition expands.
