lectric truck which is perform-ing very useful service. Special Installations. A line built according to this system is 301 12 TRACKLESS TROLLEY TRACTION located in a suburb of Vienna, the length being about IJ miles. There are no level stretches, the steepest grade being 8.4 per centand the least 2.81 per cent, and there are several sharp curves andsometimes very narrow roadways. Four wires are provided forthe trolley in order to avoid the exchange of contacts. The poweris provided by connecting the wires to the electric street railwaycircuit, the positive wire to the trolley, the negative wire to therails. The rolling stock consists of four motor wagons, each witha capacity of 22 passengers, two 20-horsepower motors driving therear wheels. The trolley cable is about 65 feet long, thus givinga large radius of action. Braking is effected by electricity and byfoot brakes. The illumination of the car is by electric lights. Onrecommendation of the manufacturers, trials were made with four

An installation according to the KoehlerSystem has been recently put in operation in Bremen, Germany, and shows some interesting features. Fig. 12. 392 TRACKLESS TROLLEY TRACTION 13 Trolley Wires. The essential difference between this systemand others lies in the arrangement of the trolley wires, which areone above the other. The negative conductor is on top and 11inches away from the positive conductor. One advantage of thisconstruction is the very simple suspension.
