Cyko Portrait by Joseph Toloff PORTRAIT Our Cover Portrait and the Hall of Fame A BOUT ten years ago Joseph Toloff reached thisA\ country from far-away Russia—a young boywith an active imagination and an artisticinspiration. Descended from a long Hne of artisticallyinclined ancestors, the son of an accomplished lithog-rapher, it was only natural that Joseph should setout upon the mastery of the art of photography. Under the guidance of Elias Goldensky the ladsoon began to rise rapidly in his chosen profession.Always an idealist, leaving nothing untried to achieveresults far above the average, broader opportunitiescame shortly to the young man, and he became abranch manager and a valued co-worker withKoehne of Chicago. Later as home-operator forthe Moffett Studio, he widened his experience andknowledge of photography. Finally he opened hisown studio in classic Evanston, seat of Northwest-ern University. It did not take Evanston long to discover Toloffsgenius and sterling qualities. H
