Summary

edit
Description
English: An example of blocking artifacts in a traditional DCT block-based codec. To the there is a reconstructed image, to the right visualization of the corresponding normalized error distribution within each block. Errors at the edges of blocks are particularly noticeable as they form hard edges. Worse, the DCT (and other transforms in the DCT family) tend to concentrate error at block edges, compounding the problem.
