Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 31. August 1948 vom Schleswig-Holsteinischen Staatsministerium des Innern genehmigt. Der Wal steht für den historischen Walfang, während der Kompaß mit der in nördliche Richtung zeigenden Nadel die ehemaligen Fanggebiete bei Spitzbergen markiert. Die Schildfarben Silber und Grün beziehen sich auf den Dünenbewuchs und das Meer.
