Object history
Deutsch: Die Geschichte der Gemeinde ist sehr eng mit der des gleichnamigen Adelsgeschlechts verbunden. Die Gemeinde hat daher das Stammwappen dieser Familie in seiner ältesten Form übernommen, das seit 1356 nachweisbar ist. Die gestümmelten Äste sind in der Heraldik Zeichen für Rodung durch Schlagen und Abbrennen der Wälder. Die Herren von Schirnding waren mit der Urbarmachung und Besiedlung des großen Waldgebietes zwischen Eger und Wunsiedel beauftragt. Sie sind seit 1377 als Ortsherren bezeugt. Man geht davon aus, dass die weit verzweigte Familie bereits um 1200 in Schirnding ansässig war.
