Object history
Deutsch: Der Berg und der Baum stellen die geografische Lage der Gemeinde im Odenwald dar; der Berg steht zugleich redend für den Ortsnamenbestandteil -berg. Die Lilie und die Krone sind Mariensymbole und weisen auf die schon vor 1474 bekannte Wallfahrt zur Muttergottes auf dem Holderstock hin. Einer Legende zufolge stand das Gnadenbild mit der Madonna und dem Kind ursprünglich auf dem Hochaltar der Kirche, bis es eines Tages draußen auf einem Holderstock (Holunderbaum) gefunden wurde. Obwohl das Bild immer wieder zurück in die Kirche getragen wurde, befand es sich am nächsten Tag erneut im Freien. Daraufhin errichtete man um den Holderstock eine Gnadenkapelle. Bis ins 19. Jahrhundert stand das Bild auf einem Holderstock.
