Der Brunnen der oberen Schildhälfte erinnert an die zahlreichen mineralischen Quellen in der Gemarkung, das grün symbolisiert den Waldreichtum der Gemeinde.

Die untere Schildhälfte verweist auf die ehemalige Zugehörigkeit zur hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim, Oberamt Birkenfeld.
