Deutsch: Die Wellenflanke weist auf die Lage der Gemeinde im Altmühltal hin. Der wachsende silberne Bischofsstab in Rot ist das heraldische Zeichen des Hochstifts Eichstätt und erinnert an die landesherrschaftliche Zugehörigkeit des Gemeindegebiets bis zur Säkularisation 1803. Der mit Stierhörnern und -ohren besetzte Kübelhelm ist aus dem Siegel der ortsadligen Herren von Walting übernommen, die bis zum 14. Jahrhundert im Gemeindegebiet belegt sind. Die drei Sterne stammen aus dem Wappen der seit 1194 nachweisbaren Herren von Pfalzpaint, die bis 1452 Schloss und Dorf Pfalzpaint besaßen. Pfalzpaint war erst ein Hirschberger, dann ein herzoglich-bayerisches Lehen. Heinrich von Pfalzpaint erlangte als einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Chirurgen im Spätmittelalter und Verfasser eines Buches über Wundarzneikunde (1460) Berühmtheit. Schloss und Dorf Pfalzpaint wurden erst 1659 in das Eichstätter Territorium einbezogen. |
