Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 12. September 1938 wenige Wochen vor der Stadterhebung (23.12.1938) durch den Oberpräsidenten Westfalens verliehen. Es zeigt den Reichsadler, welche den an den ehemaligen Reichshof Elmenhorst erinnert mit dem Brustschild der Herren von der Goy, welche im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert großen Einfluss in Waltrop und Umgebung hatten.
English: The arms were granted on September 12, 1938. They show the imperial eagle charged with the arms of the Lords of Goy. The eagle is derived from the seal of the free imperial estate Elmenhorst, which is part of the city.
