Das Wappen ist abgeleitet von den Wappen der ehemaligen Gemeinden Lotte und Wersen.

Der Wellenbalken weist auf die Düte hin. Der Anker stammt aus dem Wappen des Vogts des Landesherrn (Geschlecht von Harde), der im 16. Jahrhundert in Lotte gewohnt hat. Das Seerosenblatt versinnbildlicht die Zugehörigkeit zum Tecklenburger Land.
English: „Gules, a bend wavy sinister Argent, above a bendy lidded anchor Or and below a water lily leave Argent.“ The arms were last on August 15, 1975. The arms are based on the former arms from Lotte and Wersen. The bend wavy symbolises the Düte river. The anchor is derived from the Lords of Harde, ruling the county in the 16. century and the water lily leave is a symbol for the belonging to the county of Tecklenburg.
