| Description | 330-CFD-DN-ST-90-11349: Operation Sharp Edge, June 1990 to January 1991. An LCM-8 mechanized landing craft passes the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan (LHA 2) as the utility landing craft LCU-1658 backs out of the Saipan's well deck during Operation Sharp Edge. Marines embarked aboard the SAIPAN are being sent to the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia, to augment security and evacuate U.S. and foreign nationals from the fighting between government and rebel forces, 8/1/1990 JO1 Kip Burke. (OPA-NARA II-8/14/2015). |
