DOE recently completed cleanup of legacy transuranic waste at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

A byproduct of the nation’s nuclear defense program, transuranic waste is safely and permanently disposed in rooms mined out of an ancient salt formation more than 2,100 feet below the surface at DOE’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico.
