Title
DOR-F13999: roman coin hoard
Description
English: SPETISBURY, Dorset

Richard Abdy

45 AE to c. AD 161 (+ later strays) BM ref.: 2012 T765

PAS ID: SOMDOR-A78F58 & SOMDOR-E394B4

Circumstances of discovery

Found over a period of several years by Mr John Hinchcliffe whilst using a metal-detector on cultivated land. The find was first reported to the FLO in October 2010, with a further 10 coin addenda (9 illegible dp/as + one uncertain Antonine Emperor dp/as) subsequently brought in under the second PAS ID but added together in this catalogue. Of the five late Roman coins found at the same time, the three legible coins date from the second half of the fourth century and are probably stray intruders to the main Antonine hoard of dupondii and asses.

Disposition

The coins were extremely worn and corroded and no images were taken at the BM
