Grand-Pré is a rural community in Nova Scotia. Its French name translates to "Large Meadow”. The place was made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem Evangeline and is home to the Grand-Pré National Historic Site and is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The site is a powerful monument that commemorates the Acadian people and their deportation by the British. The site was a center of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755. The Deportation of the Acadians, began in 1755 and continued until 1762. For many Acadians throughout the world, the site remains the heart of their ancestral homeland and the symbol of the ties that unite them to this day.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's first epic poem, Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie, published in 1847, is a story of loss and devotion set against the deportation of the Acadian people in 1755. The poem elevated Longfellow to be the most famous writer in America and has had a lasting cultural impact, especially in Nova Scotia and Louisiana, where most of the poem is set.

In 1920, at Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia, Acadians reconstructed the French church with a statue of Evangeline in the courtyard.
