Description
English: Danbury - Rape Fields In April many fields in Essex turn yellow as the rapeseed comes into flower. Rapeseed (Brassica Napus), also known as Rape, Oilseed Rape, Rapa, Rapaseed and Canola, is a member of the family Brassicaceae (mustard or cabbage family). The name is derived through Old English from a term for turnip, rapum. It is widely cultivated in this part of the country for the production of animal feed and vegetable oil for human consumption. More recently it has become an important source of biodiesel.
