| Description |
English: Date-stones from the Old School, Greenfield Drive, Scholes, Cleckheaton. On the right 'THIS / SCHOOL / Erected / by / Subscription / AD1790'. On the left 'Repaired / A.D.1816'. The building was on the site of Ash Court, to the west of Scholes Lane, and was built on a part of the village green granted by the commoners. The first two schoolmasters were the curates of the White Chapel. In 1847 the school was replaced by the National School and the building was neglected, being used only for township meetings, and was sold and eventually demolished. |
