Description
English: In May 1950, Life photographer David Douglas Duncan first came to Japan to shoot on the theme of traditional beauty of Japanese culture. In the evening of June, Miki took a picture of Duncan at the Time Life Tokyo bureau with a Leica body and a Nikkor 8.5cm F2 lens. "It's a Japanese-made Zoner," he said to Duncan, and he didn't even notice the defeated country-made lenses, "Where are the Japanese-made Cadillacs?" However, he was astonished when he showed Duncan a photo printed in 8x10 size the next day. "I've never seen such a sharp lens. I want to see this company. Call me right away," he said with excitement. Miki called Nikon. He kindly agreed to tell the matter to President Masao Nagaoka who answered the phone directly. The two went to a Nikon factory to test Nikkor lenses one after another. "Wonderful, Japanese lens," Duncan muttered. The Nikkor lens had higher performance than the highest level German lenses at that time. Duncan filmed the Korean War with Nikon products, which triggered the spread of Nikon around the world. At this time, Miki took a picture of Duncan using a Nikkor 8.5cm F2.
