Separation of gold and silver by nitric acid A gold-silver alloy is combined with nitric acid and heated in an ampule (A), which dissolves the silver, leaving the gold behind. The silver is recovered from the solvent either by precipitating it in a copper bowl or by drying the solution in a distillation apparatus. |
