Иконографическая справка: Икона в древности служила северной боковой дверью иконостаса, ведущей в жертвенник. Иконография памятника характерна для дверного декора, сложившегося в русском искусстве XVI века. Трехмастное построение композиции типично для большинства таких памятников, равно как и размещение верхних двух сцен - "Лоно Авраамово" и "Изгнание Адама и Евы из рая" - в кругах, обрамленных широкими цветными окружностями с декором. Нижняя сцена - "Рыдание над гробом с умершим" или "Зрю во гробе и ужасаюсь..." получила широкое распространение в искусстве новгородских, среднерусских и северных земель во второй половине XVI столетия и нередко помещалась на южных вратах дьяконника, который, согласно постановлениям Стоглава 1551 года, был местом заупокойных служб. Однако и в это время, особенно в северных регионах, они нередко исполнялись в жертвеннике. Композиция иллюстрирует тексты Синодика и Слова Григория Двоеслова о пользе молитв за усопших, особенно в 3, 9, 40 день. В трех клеймах последовательно раскрывается мысль о человеческом спасении: бренности земного бытия и вечной жизни праведных в раю, потерянного человечеством вследствие первородного греха. Изображения сопровождаются подробными надписями из Синодика. Орнаментальная рама, окружающая все полотнище двери, встречается на боковых вратах, происходящих из храмов вологодской земли.

Стилистическая справка: Икона является точным иконографическим и стилистическим повторением пономарской двери конца XVI века из Воскресенской Лещевской церкви бывшего Кадниковского уезда Вологодской области. По-видимому, оба памятника принадлежат руке одного художника или происходят из одной иконописной мастерской, снабжавшей живописными боковыми дверьми храмы и монастыри Вологодчины.
