English: Dedication stone in Almondell - 1784 The dedication reads :-
MARGARET COUNTESS OF BUCHAN DEDICATED THIS FOREST TO HER ANCESTOR SIR SIMON FRASER OCTOBER XV MDCCLXXXIV The Sir Simon Fraser was of 'Oliver and Neidpath', who fought with William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Sir Simon was captured by the English either at or soon after the Battle of Methven [1306] and was sentenced to death. He was executed and his head stuck on a spear on London Bridge beside that of Wallace. |
