Description

The U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker USCGC Eastwind (WAGB-279) was one of three icebreakers used by Operation Deep Freeze in the Ross Sea area in 1955-1956.

Stratocumulus clouds showing effects of open water and modified continental Antarctic air mass. This formation is usually accompanied by light north to neartheasterly surface winds.
