Description
English: Cape Canaveral AFS, Fla. - Ready for launch, a Delta IV rocket awaits liftoff on March 4 on a flight to lift a weather satellite into orbit. Workers moved the mobile service tower back from the rocket on launch day to permit a launch later that day. The satellite, called GOES-P is inside the payload fairing at the top of the Delta IV. GOES is short for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite. The letter designates its place in the series of satellites. The GOES-P spacecraft will be in 22,300-mile-high orbit that lets it appear to hover over a single point on Earth. The spacecraft is outfitted with a complex suite of observation instruments and cameras so it can accurately report on weather and climate conditions on Earth.
