Die Krugbäcker der Südwesteifel stellen seit dem ausgehenden Mittelalter Steinzeugware her. Seit den 60er Jahren greifen sie auf historische Formen zurück, die sie künstlerisch gestalten. Die Töpferei Willems Thiel nahm den Bartmannskrug neu ins Programm, der als Zierobjekt verkauft wird. Der Krug wird auf der Töpferscheibe gedreht und anschließend gehenkelt. Im "lederharten" Zustand bringt der Töpfer den von Hand aus Ton geformten "Bartmann" auf. Der Bartmannskrug wird bei ca.1250° Celsius gebrannt und glasiert.
