English: Roman Encampment, Pennymuir. The Roman road, Dere Street, runs through Pennymuir. Now it is no more than a corrugated-roofed village hall but in the first and second centuries AD a Roman marching encampment was to the south and the east. The remains of the encampments can still be traced today and would have housed 6000 men in tented accommodation. |
