Vlad III the Impaler was killed on the battlefield against the Ottomans near Bucharest in 1476. The Turks decapitated his corpse, preserved his head in honey and sent it to Constantinople, where the Sultan had it displayed on a stake as proof that the Impaler was finally dead. The exact location of his body remains unknown. One theory is that Vlad's body may be buried at Snagov, an island monastery located near Bucharest.

Vlad III. wurde im Dezember des Jahres 1476 oder Anfang 1477 enthauptet, der Kopf wurde in Honig eingelegt und nach Konstantinopel verbracht. Sein Leichnam soll im Kloster von Snagov beigesetzt worden sein, der genaue Bestattungsort ist jedoch unbekannt. Den Beinamen Țepeș („der Pfähler“) erhielt Vlad III. erst nach seinem Tod.
